For various reasons the MVR has experienced another lull following the activity of the early spring, but things have begun to pick up again in the last few weeks. Russell enjoyed the first outing of its 18th anniversary year on 26th June. This train provided a test run for our latest wagon acquisition, which takes the number Q1. This very fine laser-cut wagon was actually a Christmas present from a relative of mine who spotted it on eBay. Enclosed wagons of this type could serve various purposes, but I have decided to interpret this one as a compressor wagon, i.e. a vehicle sometimes used by preserved narrow gauge lines where locomotives are not fitted with an air brake pump of their own.
Russell was then re-set to 32mm gauge ready for an outing to the Crumbley Light Railway in Oxfordshire. Having already made two visits to the Vale of White Horse Railway our flagship engine is becoming quite well acquainted with the county! Indeed, the VWHR was also represented at the event by a Roundhouse Beddgelert, affording the opportunity to see two NWNGR locos together.
